Estate History
François Villard, a leading winemaker of the Northern Rhône, is celebrated for his precise, elegant wines that respect the character of each appellation. His “Version Longue” from Saint-Péray reflects his commitment to long aging, balance, and complexity, showcasing the potential of Marsanne and Roussanne from this lesser-known Rhône white appellation.
Terroir
The vineyards of Saint-Péray lie on granite and limestone soils at the southern end of the Northern Rhône. This terroir, combined with the cool climate of the region, allows for slow, balanced ripening, giving freshness and aromatic intensity to the Marsanne and Roussanne grapes.
Tasting Notes
Brilliant pale gold color. The nose is complex and refined, with aromas of white flowers, ripe pear, honey, almonds, and a touch of citrus. On the palate, the wine is rich and textured, with layered fruit, fresh acidity, and a long, mineral, and elegant finish.
A beautifully structured Saint-Péray — combining richness and freshness with great aging potential, true to François Villard’s signature style.
Pairing
Ideal with lobster, scallops, roasted poultry, creamy mushroom dishes, or aged cheeses like Beaufort and Comté.
