Domaine History

Château Gruaud Larose, a 2nd Growth in the 1855 classification, is one of the most historic and respected estates of Saint-Julien, Bordeaux. The second wine, **Sarget de Gruaud Larose**, takes its name from Abbé Sarget, one of the estate’s 19th-century owners, and offers an accessible yet elegant expression of the château’s terroir. Produced with the same care as the Grand Vin, Sarget delivers balance, fruit-driven charm, and aging potential.

Terroir

The vineyards of Gruaud Larose lie on the deep gravel soils of Saint-Julien, perfectly suited for Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. This classic Left Bank terroir provides excellent drainage and heat retention, allowing for slow, even ripening and contributing to the wine’s structure, complexity, and finesse.

Tasting Notes

Deep garnet red color. The nose is elegant and expressive, showing aromas of blackcurrant, plum, cedar, tobacco, and subtle floral notes. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, with well-integrated tannins, juicy dark fruit, and a balanced, fresh finish highlighted by hints of spice and graphite.

A refined and approachable Saint-Julien, offering the finesse and balance of Gruaud Larose in a charming, early-drinking style — enhanced by the Magnum format for optimal aging.

Vinification & Aging

Traditional vinification in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. Aged in French oak barrels, with a moderate proportion of new oak, for around 14 months. The process respects the fruit and structure, ensuring elegance and drinkability.

Pairing

Perfect with roast beef, lamb chops, duck breast, or aged cheeses such as Comté and Gruyère.
