Domaine History

Château Poujeaux, located in the Moulis-en-Médoc appellation, has been renowned for centuries for its consistent quality and classic Médoc style. Owned by the Cuvelier family since 2008 (also owners of Clos Fourtet in Saint-Émilion), the estate combines modern precision with traditional know-how. The second wine of the château, produced with the same care as the Grand Vin, delivers structure, elegance, and aging potential — particularly enhanced by the Magnum format.

Terroir

The estate’s vineyards are planted on Günz gravel soils over clay-limestone subsoils. This well-drained terroir is perfectly suited to Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, ensuring optimal ripening and contributing to the wine’s balance, aromatic complexity, and refined tannic structure.

Tasting Notes

Deep ruby red color. The nose reveals aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, plum, cedar, and subtle floral notes. On the palate, the wine is well-structured and elegant, with polished tannins, ripe dark fruit, fresh acidity, and a long, harmonious finish with notes of graphite and spice.

A classic Left Bank Bordeaux in Magnum format, offering power, elegance, and balance — crafted for aging while remaining accessible in its youth.

Vinification & Aging

Manual harvest with careful grape selection. Vinification in stainless steel vats, followed by aging in French oak barrels (about 30% new oak) for 12 to 18 months. This approach enhances the wine’s complexity while respecting the purity of the fruit.

Pairing

Perfect with grilled ribeye, roast lamb, duck confit, or aged cheeses like Comté and Gruyère.
