Castelão (a.k.a. Periquita in Portugal) is a thick-skinned black grape and is one of the most planted varietal in Portugal. Deep ruby in colour. Aromas is intense and juicy with red fruits (raspberry, red cherry), black fruits (blueberry, bramble), red plum, sweet spices (cinnamon, vanilla), sweet oak, caramel, toast and a touch of floral note. Palate is well balanced with luscious mouthfeel and lingering tannin. Bramble fruits and sweet spices on the finish.
