Domaine History
**Château Vrai Canon Bouché**, located in the **Canon-Fronsac** appellation on Bordeaux’s right bank, has built a strong reputation for producing structured and expressive wines. The château benefits from clay-limestone soils typical of the region, which bring both richness and freshness to its Merlot-dominated blends. Known for its precise viticulture and traditional winemaking, the estate produces wines that age gracefully while remaining approachable in their youth.
Terroir
The vineyards sit on clay and limestone hillsides overlooking the Dordogne River, providing excellent natural drainage and exposure. These conditions are ideal for Merlot, which thrives on these soils, while Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon add structure and aromatic complexity.
Winemaking
Hand-harvested grapes are sorted carefully before fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. Gentle extraction techniques are used to preserve elegance and fruit purity. The wine is aged in French oak barrels, with a portion of new oak, for about 12 to 18 months, enhancing complexity and softening the tannins.
Tasting Notes
Deep garnet red color. The nose reveals aromas of ripe blackberries, plums, and red cherries, along with notes of sweet spices, tobacco, and a touch of licorice. On the palate, the wine is round and well-balanced, with smooth tannins, lively acidity, and a long, elegant finish. The 2012 vintage offers harmony, freshness, and good aging potential while remaining accessible today.
A classic and refined Canon-Fronsac—smooth, structured, and expressive, highlighting Merlot’s richness with elegance and aromatic depth.
Pairing
Enjoy with roasted meats, duck breast, or mature cheeses.
