Storia della tenuta
Château du Cèdre, located in Cahors in the southwest of France, is regarded as one of the leading estates for Malbec wines. Owned by the Verhaeghe family, the domaine is known for its commitment to organic viticulture and minimal intervention in the cellar. With a philosophy rooted in respect for the terroir and tradition, Château du Cèdre produces powerful yet elegant wines that highlight the true character of Malbec.
Terroir
The vineyards are planted on the limestone plateau and gravelly terraces along the Lot Valley. These well-drained soils, combined with the region’s sunny climate and cool nights, allow for optimal ripening of the Malbec grapes while preserving freshness and aromatic precision.
Note di degustazione
Deep, almost opaque purple color. The nose is intense and complex, with aromas of blackberries, cassis, violets, licorice, and subtle notes of cocoa and spice. On the palate, the wine is powerful yet refined, with silky tannins, rich dark fruit, and a long, structured finish marked by mineral freshness and fine oak integration.
A majestic expression of Cahors Malbec, offering depth, balance, and aging potential — particularly enhanced by the Magnum format.
Vinificazione e Affinamento
Manual harvest with strict grape selection. Fermentation with native yeasts, followed by long maceration. The wine is aged for about 24 months in French oak barrels, using a balanced proportion of new oak to enhance complexity without overpowering the fruit.
Abbinamento
Perfect with grilled ribeye, braised lamb shanks, game dishes, or hard cheeses such as aged Manchego or Comté.
