Domaine History
Château Vieux Maillet, located in the prestigious Pomerol appellation on Bordeaux’s Right Bank, has established a reputation for producing rich, elegant wines that showcase the full potential of Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Benefiting from prime vineyard sites and a commitment to precision winemaking, the estate delivers wines that reflect both power and finesse, true to the Pomerol style.
Terroir
The vineyards of Vieux Maillet lie on clay and sandy-gravel soils, ideal for the cultivation of Merlot and Cabernet Franc. This terroir allows for excellent drainage and deep root systems, promoting concentration, aromatic complexity, and silky tannins in the wines.
Tasting Notes
Deep garnet color with purple hues. The nose is expressive and refined, offering aromas of blackberries, plums, violets, and sweet spices, with hints of cocoa and licorice. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and well-structured, with velvety tannins, rich dark fruit, and a long, harmonious finish.
A rich and elegant Pomerol, combining opulence and finesse — perfect for aging but also approachable in its youth.
Vinification & Aging
Manual harvesting with strict grape selection. Fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, followed by aging in French oak barrels (including a proportion of new oak) for 12 to 18 months to enhance complexity and roundness.
Pairing
Perfect with roast lamb, beef tenderloin, duck confit, or aged cheeses such as Comté and Parmesan.
