Dense, deep ruby in colour. Nose is focus and gentle with a good concentration of red cherry, black cherry, red fruits (raspberry and cranberry in particular), black fruits (mulberry), sweet blueberry, sweet spices, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla bean, wood smoke, wood toast, red flowers and a hint of cedar. Full-bodied, mouthfeel is round and luscious with lovely notes of sweet cherry, cassis, blueberry and cinnamon. Silky tannin. Finish is extremely elegant with violet, straw berry cream, cherry compote and hint of wood smoke. Vinhas Velhas means “old vines” in Portugal, which normally refers to a range of grape varieties that are indigenous to a particular region or have been there for a very long time. Old vines in Portugal commonly implies vines that are more or less over 40 years old, but is usually older than 40 years old (50 to 70 years, and can be up to 140 years old).
