Domaine History

Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey, classified as Premier Grand Cru Classé in 1855, is one of the historic estates of Sauternes. Located on the highest plateau of Bommes, near Château d’Yquem, the property benefits from exceptional terroir for producing world-class sweet wines. **La Chapelle de Lafaurie-Peyraguey**, the second wine of the estate, is crafted with the same care and precision as the grand vin, offering an accessible yet refined expression of Sauternes elegance.

Terroir

The vineyards lie on gravelly and clay-limestone soils, perfectly suited to the development of **Botrytis cinerea** (noble rot), essential for concentrating sugars and flavors in the grapes. The proximity to the Ciron and Garonne rivers creates the morning mists and sunny afternoons necessary for optimal botrytization.

Winemaking

The grapes are harvested by hand through successive pickings (tries) to select only the berries affected by noble rot. Fermentation occurs in stainless steel and oak barrels, followed by aging for 12 to 16 months in French oak, a portion of which is new. This process enhances the wine’s aromatic complexity and structure while preserving its freshness and elegance.

Tasting Notes

Golden yellow color with brilliant highlights. The nose opens with aromas of candied apricot, honey, acacia flowers, and citrus peel, enriched by delicate notes of vanilla and almond. On the palate, the wine is luscious yet balanced, offering silky texture, vibrant acidity, and flavors of tropical fruit, orange marmalade, and sweet spices. The finish is long, fresh, and elegant, making it a charming and refined Sauternes.

An elegant, accessible Sauternes—sweet and rich, yet balanced by bright acidity and finesse. A beautiful introduction to the style of Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey.

Pairing

Perfect with foie gras, blue cheeses like Roquefort, fruit-based desserts, or as an aperitif. Also pairs well with spicy Asian cuisine or roasted poultry with fruit sauces.
