Domaine History

Testamatta, meaning “crazy-head” in Italian, is Bibi Graetz’s flagship wine. The 2016 is a Supertuscan made entirely from old-vine Sangiovese, combining tradition and creativity.

Terroir

The 2016 grapes came from five old-vine Tuscan vineyards: Vincigliata, Londa, Lamole, Montefili and Siena. Vines reach up to 80 years old; sites range from 250 metres at Siena to 600 metres at Lamole.

Winemaking

Each parcel was harvested up to eight times and selected again at the winery before destemming and gentle pressing. Fermentation used indigenous yeasts in open 225-litre barriques without temperature control, with six manual punch-downs per day. After seven to ten days of maceration, the parcels aged for two years in old barriques.

Tasting Notes

Bibi Graetz describes the 2016 as generous and balanced, combining the strength of the vintage with Sangiovese’s elegance. Layers of red fruit, black tea and earth lead to tobacco, black cherry and leather.
