Domaine History
Catherine Péré-Vergé acquired Château Le Gay in 2002. The estate is in Pomerol, and this 2008 vintage was produced from its Feytit vineyard parcels.
Terroir
The 2.5-hectare vineyard in Feytit comprises four parcels of fine gravel over iron-rich subsoils, characteristic of the Pomerol appellation.
Winemaking
The grapes were harvested by hand in small boxes, sorted twice, destemmed and selected berry by berry. Micro-vinification took place in new oak barrels after a long cold maceration. The same French-oak barrels then held the wine for malolactic fermentation and 18 months of ageing.
Tasting Notes
The Guide Hachette described the 2008 as deep purple, with a youthful yet profound bouquet combining black berries and roasted notes. The palate was structured and markedly oaked without overwhelming the fruit.
An exact-vintage Pomerol from four fine-gravel parcels, micro-vinified and aged for 18 months in new French-oak barrels.
Pairing
The Guide Hachette recommends serving this 2008 with truffle-based dishes.
