Deep ruby in colour. Aromas is focus and is dominated by blue berry, an assorted mixture of red (redcurrant in particular) and black fruits (mulberry, black berry), red cherry, black cherry, together with violet, sweet spices (cinnamon, nutmeg), cedar, sweet oak, toast and a hint of sun-dried lavender. Generous and gentle on the palate with lovely characters of black cherry, plum, dark chocolate, cinnamon stick and a touch of wood smoke. Firm yet smooth texture, luscious tannin, touch of savouriness. Blueberry compote, candied black cherry, cocoa, wood toast and beautiful red flowers on the finish. Castelão (a.k.a. Periquita in Portugal) is a thick-skinned black grape and is one of the most planted varietal in Portugal. In comparison to 2018, vintage 2021 is more concentrated and generous with beautiful note of blueberry from start to finish.
