Histoire du domaine
Domaine Altugnac, situated in the foothills of the Pyrenees within the Languedoc region, is renowned for its innovative approach to winemaking. Embracing both tradition and experimentation, the estate produces expressive wines that reflect the unique terroir of the region.
Terroir
The vineyards are perched at an altitude of 500 meters, facing the Pyrenees mountains. Muscat grapes thrive on barren, stony, south-facing slopes, while Sauvignon Blanc is cultivated on deeper limestone clay soils. This diverse terroir contributes to the wine’s aromatic complexity and freshness.
Vinification
“Orange is the New Wine” is a skin-fermented white wine, crafted using techniques typically reserved for red wines. The grapes undergo a 14-day maceration on their skins, followed by gentle crushing to extract the juice. Fermentation is completed in barrels that are several vintages old, with aging lasting approximately one year. No sulphites are added during this process, allowing for a pure expression of the fruit and terroir.
