Domaine History
Château du Cèdre, a leading estate in Cahors, has been managed by the Verhaeghe family for several generations. Pioneers of organic viticulture in the region, they focus on producing elegant and terroir-driven Malbecs. The “Extra Libre” cuvée represents their commitment to natural winemaking with no added sulfites.
Terroir
Grown on the high terraces of Cahors, on stony limestone soils with clay sublayers. This terroir promotes healthy vines and balanced ripening, while the natural approach in the vineyard and cellar enhances purity and aromatic expression.
Tasting Notes
Deep ruby color. The nose is vibrant and pure, with aromas of black cherries, blueberries, violets, and fresh herbs. On the palate, the wine is juicy and lively, with silky tannins, fresh acidity, and a clean, fruit-forward finish. The absence of added sulfites gives it a remarkable softness and energy.
A pure and expressive Malbec, naturally made, offering freshness, fruit, and drinkability — a modern, “free” interpretation of Cahors.
Pairing
Perfect with grilled meats, vegetable tian, lentil salad, or charcuterie boards. Best enjoyed slightly chilled.
