Domaine History

Domaine du Vieux Bourg is a family-run estate rooted in the heart of Beaujolais, where traditional viticulture meets a deep respect for terroir. The estate’s philosophy centers on minimal intervention, allowing each cru to fully express its identity. Within the Chénas appellation — the smallest of the ten Beaujolais crus — their “Au Bois Retour” cuvée captures the essence of this distinctive land, renowned for wines of depth, finesse, and longevity.

Terroir

The vines for “Au Bois Retour” grow on granitic and sandy soils with patches of quartz, offering superb drainage and excellent sun exposure. This terroir imparts both elegance and structure to the Gamay grapes, producing wines with lifted aromatics, vibrant acidity, and a supple, velvety mouthfeel. The combination of altitude and mineral-rich soil contributes to a remarkable purity of fruit and a subtle floral character.

Tasting Notes

A deep, luminous ruby hue with purple glints. The bouquet opens with layers of ripe red cherry, raspberry, and crushed violets, evolving toward hints of black pepper, dried herbs, and a touch of graphite. On the palate, it is fresh and harmonious — medium-bodied with silky tannins and a fine mineral backbone. The finish is long and perfumed, echoing floral and spicy notes that linger gracefully.
