Domaine History
**Vieux Château Certan**, founded in the 18th century, is one of Pomerol’s most prestigious estates, known for its elegance, balance, and complexity. **La Gravette de Certan** is the château’s second wine, produced with the same meticulous care as the grand vin. Made from younger vines and select parcels, it offers an earlier-drinking expression of the estate’s exceptional terroir while retaining the finesse and style characteristic of Vieux Château Certan.
Terroir
Situated on Pomerol’s famous plateau, the vineyards benefit from a mix of gravel and clay soils that provide perfect drainage and retain heat, allowing for optimal ripening of Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The terroir lends depth, structure, and a distinct elegance to the wines, while the influence of Cabernet Sauvignon adds freshness and aromatic complexity.
Winemaking
Grapes are hand-harvested and carefully sorted before fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. The wine is aged for approximately 18 months in French oak barrels, with a portion of new oak, bringing structure and subtle spice while preserving the purity of the fruit.
Tasting Notes
La Gravette de Certan 2015 presents a deep ruby color. The nose is expressive, offering aromas of black cherries, plums, cassis, and floral notes, layered with hints of cedar, sweet spices, and graphite. On the palate, the wine is silky and elegant, with ripe, fine-grained tannins, balanced acidity, and a long, polished finish. This 2015 vintage stands out for its harmony, smooth texture, and immediate appeal while retaining the potential for aging.
A graceful and refined Pomerol, combining silky texture, fresh fruit, and elegant structure—crafted for pleasure and built to evolve beautifully over time.
Pairing
Perfect with roast duck, veal tenderloin, lamb chops, or aged cheeses like Comté and Saint-Nectaire.
