Domaine History
Founded in 1676, Château de la Chaize is one of the most historic estates in Beaujolais, with a deep-rooted commitment to organic and sustainable viticulture. The estate spans over 250 hectares, including some of the most prestigious crus in the region. Meticulously restored and modernized in recent years, the château now produces terroir-driven wines that balance tradition with innovation. The Morgon 2021 exemplifies the depth, structure, and elegance that define this exceptional cru.
Terroir
The Morgon vineyards are situated on granite-rich, schistous soils with excellent drainage, located on gently sloping hillsides facing southeast. These conditions, along with the naturally low yields, allow the Gamay grape to develop complexity, concentration, and age-worthy character. Morgon is known as one of the most structured and cellar-worthy crus of Beaujolais.
Tasting Notes
Deep ruby red in color. The nose opens with intense aromas of black cherry, ripe plum, and violet, layered with hints of licorice, wet stone, and a touch of spice. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied yet refined, with supple tannins, vibrant acidity, and a lingering finish of dark fruit and mineral notes.
A serious and expressive Morgon — showcasing the structure and complexity of the cru, while retaining the finesse and freshness of great Gamay.
Pairing
Ideal with roast duck, grilled lamb, pork tenderloin, or hearty vegetarian dishes such as lentil stew or mushroom risotto. Also pairs beautifully with aged cheeses like Tomme de Savoie or Comté.
