Domaine History

The Domaine des Epeneaux, owned by the Comte Armand family since 1828, is one of the historic estates of Pommard. The jewel of the estate is the **Clos des Epeneaux**, a 5.3-hectare walled vineyard (monopole), classified as Premier Cru. Known for its biodynamic farming and minimal-intervention winemaking, the domaine produces wines that combine power, structure, and finesse—built to age gracefully over decades.

Terroir

The **Clos des Epeneaux** is located in the heart of Pommard on deep clay-limestone soils, contributing to the wine’s strength, density, and aging capacity. The old vines, some over 80 years old, yield small berries with intense aromatic concentration, while the altitude and exposure ensure freshness and balance.

Winemaking

The grapes are hand-harvested and carefully sorted. Vinification takes place with indigenous yeasts, using partial whole-cluster fermentation depending on the vintage. Aging occurs for 18 to 24 months in French oak barrels (around 30% new), followed by further bottle aging to harmonize the wine’s structure and complexity.

Tasting Notes

Deep ruby color. The nose offers aromas of black cherry, wild strawberry, violets, and rose petals, layered with subtle notes of forest floor, sweet spices, and graphite. On the palate, the wine is structured yet refined, with firm but polished tannins, bright acidity, and a mineral-driven backbone. The finish is long and precise, revealing both the power and elegance typical of the Clos des Epeneaux monopole.

A distinguished Premier Cru Pommard—powerful, complex, and beautifully balanced, with superb aging potential and a signature expression of the Clos des Epeneaux terroir.

Pairing

Perfect with duck breast, roasted lamb, game birds, beef Wellington, or aged cheeses such as Époisses or Comté.
