Domaine History
Pavillon Rouge du Château Margaux is the estate’s historic second wine. Produced since the 17th century, it has borne its current name since the 1906 vintage.
Terroir
Pavillon Rouge comes from Château Margaux’s estate plots in the Margaux appellation. The same teams work on it in the vineyard and cellar with the same care and expertise as the Grand Vin.
Winemaking
The exact 2005 blend is 48% Merlot, 48% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Petit Verdot. The vintage was shaped by a hot, sunny spring and an exceptionally dry summer; picking began on 20 September.
Tasting Notes
Château Margaux describes its 2005 Pavillon Rouge as remarkably powerful, rich and balanced. The estate ranks it with 2010 and 2015 among the richest Pavillon Rouge vintages it has produced in tannin and alcohol.
A powerful and balanced 2005 Margaux, with equal parts Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon supported by 4% Petit Verdot.
Pairing
VAVIN pairing suggestion: roast lamb, duck breast, beef fillet, veal or aged hard cheese.
