Domaine History

Château Vieux Maillet, located in the heart of the prestigious Pomerol appellation, is known for producing refined and expressive Right Bank wines. The estate benefits from exceptional vineyard sites and a focus on precision viticulture. With its blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc, Vieux Maillet offers wines that showcase the elegance, depth, and silky texture characteristic of Pomerol, while the Magnum format enhances aging potential and aromatic development.

Terroir

The estate’s vineyards sit on a mix of clay and sandy-gravel soils, ideal for Merlot and Cabernet Franc. This terroir allows for excellent water regulation and deep root development, bringing richness, balance, and complexity to the wine.

Tasting Notes

Deep garnet color with purple reflections. The nose is elegant and intense, with aromas of ripe blackberries, dark plums, violets, and sweet spices, alongside hints of licorice and cocoa. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and smooth, with velvety tannins, rich fruit concentration, and a long, harmonious finish with mineral freshness.

A powerful yet elegant Pomerol in Magnum format, combining opulence, structure, and finesse — ideal for aging and special occasions.

Vinification & Aging

Manual harvest with strict grape selection. Fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. Aging in French oak barrels (including a significant proportion of new oak) for 12 to 18 months, enhancing aromatic complexity and roundness.

Pairing

Perfect with roasted lamb, beef Wellington, duck breast, or aged cheeses like Comté or Parmesan.
