Estate History
Speri, a historic family-run estate founded in 1874, is a benchmark for traditional Valpolicella wines. With full organic certification and deep roots in the Valpolicella Classico zone, the estate’s Amarone “Sant’Urbano” is crafted from their greatest vineyard — a true icon of finesse and authenticity, offering a restrained, old-school take on Amarone.
Terroir
The “Sant’Urbano” vineyard is located on the limestone-rich hillsides of Fumane in Valpolicella Classico. The altitude and excellent drainage promote slow ripening and optimal conditions for the traditional appassimento process, allowing the grapes to naturally dry and concentrate before vinification.
Tasting Notes
Deep garnet red color. The nose is complex and classic, with aromas of plum, prune, fig, rhubarb, mocha, and leather, alongside floral notes of rhododendron and white flowers, and spice hints of white pepper. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied yet elegant, with silky tannins, refined fruit, and a long, balanced finish prioritizing finesse over sheer power.
A beautifully crafted Amarone from one of Valpolicella’s greatest vineyards — traditional, expressive, and gracefully structured with exceptional aging potential.
Vinification & Aging
Grapes are hand-harvested and dried through appassimento. Aged 24 months in 500 L French oak tonneaux, followed by 18 months in medium-to-large Slavonian oak casks, and 12 months of bottle aging before release.
Pairing
Perfect with braised meats, venison, aged cheeses like Parmesan, or enjoyed on its own as a meditation wine.
