Domaine History

**Château Coutet**, classified as **Premier Grand Cru Classé** in 1855, is one of the oldest and most prestigious estates in the Barsac appellation. Known for its exceptional sweet wines, Château Coutet stands out for its vibrant style, combining richness and freshness. With a heritage dating back to the 13th century, the estate has built its reputation on tradition, meticulous vineyard care, and a unique terroir.

Terroir

The vineyard is located on clay-limestone soils with a gravelly surface, ideal for the development of **Botrytis cinerea** (noble rot). The influence of the nearby Garonne and Ciron rivers creates the morning mists essential for botrytization, while sunny afternoons ensure concentration and aromatic complexity.

Winemaking

The grapes are hand-harvested through successive pickings to select the berries affected by noble rot at optimal concentration. Fermentation takes place in French oak barrels, followed by aging for about 18 months in barrel, enhancing complexity, depth, and balance while preserving the estate’s signature freshness.

Tasting Notes

Golden yellow color with brilliant reflections. The nose reveals intense aromas of candied apricots, honey, citrus zest, and white flowers, enriched by hints of vanilla and toasted almonds. On the palate, the wine is luscious yet vibrant, offering silky texture, fresh acidity, and remarkable balance between sweetness and liveliness. The long, elegant finish showcases the purity and complexity of this outstanding vintage.

A benchmark Barsac Premier Cru Classé—rich, fresh, and beautifully balanced, with outstanding aging potential and aromatic complexity.

Pairing

Enjoy with foie gras, blue cheese, fruit tarts, or as an aperitif.
