Domaine History
**Château Potensac**, owned by the Delon family (also owners of Château Léoville Las Cases), is a benchmark property of the Médoc, located north of Saint-Estèphe. **La Chapelle de Potensac** is the second wine of the estate, crafted with the same care and attention as the grand vin. It offers an accessible and charming expression of the Médoc terroir while maintaining balance, structure, and aging potential.
Terroir
The vineyards are planted on clay-limestone and gravel soils, benefiting from excellent drainage and exposure. These conditions allow Merlot and Cabernet varieties to achieve optimal ripeness, contributing to the balance between fruit richness, structure, and freshness that characterizes the wines of Potensac.
Winemaking
Grapes are hand-harvested and undergo careful sorting. Fermentation is carried out in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, with gentle extraction to preserve fruit character and balance. The wine is then aged in French oak barrels (partly new) for 12 to 14 months, adding complexity and softness while retaining the vibrant expression of the fruit.
Tasting Notes
La Chapelle de Potensac 2009 displays a deep ruby color. The nose is expressive, with aromas of ripe blackberries, blackcurrants, and plums, combined with hints of sweet spices, tobacco, and cedar. On the palate, the wine is round, smooth, and well-balanced, offering silky tannins and a fresh, fruit-driven finish. The warmth of the 2009 vintage brings richness and generosity while preserving elegance and harmony.
An elegant and approachable Médoc from an excellent vintage—charming, balanced, and ready to enjoy, with the potential for further aging.
Pairing
Perfect with roast chicken, grilled lamb, beef stew, or soft cheeses like Brie and Camembert.
