Domaine History

Founded in 1895 by ampelographer Chrétien Oberlin, Domaine Viticole de la Ville de Colmar is rooted in the heart of the Alsace vineyards. The estate works more than 28 hectares of its own vineyards, including the 14-hectare Clos Saint-Jacques near the cellars and the vineyards of the Hospices Civils Louis Pasteur de Colmar.

Terroir

The cuvée is drawn from two Pinot Noir parcels on marl-limestone slopes in Wettolsheim and Wintzenheim: one at Kritt with a south to south-east exposure, the other below Grand Cru Hengst on a south-facing site. The grapes are harvested at full maturity and fermented in oak barrels.

Tasting Notes

Deep garnet red. The finely detailed nose combines red fruit with discreet oak and vanilla notes. Supple on the palate, it shows redcurrant and strawberry, followed by an elegant, lingering finish framed by round, silky tannins.

An elegant Alsace Pinot Noir in which ripe red fruit, restrained oak and silky tannins remain in balance.

Pairing

Serve with red meats, game or venison, Camembert and firm cooked cheeses.
