Domaine History

Azul Portugal is a project dedicated to showcasing the diversity of Portuguese wine regions, selecting representative cuvées that highlight local terroirs and indigenous grape varieties. In Palmela, on the Setúbal Peninsula, the focus is on Castelão, the emblematic red grape of the region, celebrated for its ability to express both richness and balance.

Terroir

The Palmela DOC lies south of Lisbon, on sandy and well-drained soils of the Setúbal Peninsula. Benefiting from a mild maritime climate and long, sunny growing season, Castelão reaches full ripeness, resulting in wines with concentration, depth, and a distinct regional identity.

Tasting Notes

Deep garnet in colour. The nose reveals aromas of ripe plum, red cherry, and subtle notes of tobacco. On the palate, the wine is round and generous, with soft tannins, layers of spice, and a touch of dark chocolate on the finish.

A smooth and expressive Castelão, reflecting the Palmela terroir with richness and elegance.

Pairing

Perfect with roast pork, grilled sausages, mushroom risotto, or aged cheeses.
