Domaine History
The history of Domaine Jacques Prieur began in 1868. The estate owns vineyards in prestigious Grands Crus and Premiers Crus across the Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits.
Terroir
The Beaune Grèves plot overlooks the city of Beaune. Its clay-limestone soil is dominated by small pebbles and sand; the producer notes that silica in the sand stores warmth from the sun and supports ripening.
Winemaking
The grapes were handpicked into small crates, sorted and totally destemmed. They remained on the skins for 20 days in temperature-controlled open oak vats, with pigeage twice a day during alcoholic fermentation. Malolactic fermentation was completed, and the wine was aged entirely in oak barrels for 17 months.
Tasting Notes
Tasted by the producer in February 2019, the wine showed a clear ruby-red colour. The nose opened with fresh red berries and cherry, followed by cherry-pit and sweet spice notes, including vanilla. The palate was tender, smooth and elegant, with fresh fruit and delicate tannins on the finish.
A 100% Pinot Noir Beaune Grèves Premier Cru, aged entirely in oak barrels for 17 months and described by the producer as elegant and fruit-driven.
