Estate History
Charles Frey is a family-run estate located in Dambach-la-Ville, Alsace, practicing biodynamic viticulture. Known for producing expressive and pure wines, the domaine focuses on terroir-driven cuvées. This Vendanges Tardives (late harvest) Pinot Gris comes from the prestigious Grand Cru Frankstein vineyard, showcasing the estate’s expertise in crafting elegant sweet wines.
Terroir
The Frankstein Grand Cru is characterized by its granite soils, excellent drainage, and hillside exposure, offering ideal conditions for slow grape maturation and concentration of sugars. The late harvest allows the grapes to achieve full ripeness, often with noble rot, enhancing aromatic complexity and natural sweetness while preserving freshness.
Tasting Notes
Golden yellow color with brilliant reflections. The nose is rich and aromatic, with notes of ripe pear, quince, honey, apricot, and hints of candied citrus and spice. On the palate, the wine is luscious and silky, with balanced sweetness, vibrant acidity, and a long, elegant finish.
A beautifully crafted Vendanges Tardives — luscious, fresh, and complex, offering both richness and finesse from the Frankstein Grand Cru.
Pairing
Perfect with foie gras, blue cheeses like Roquefort, fruit-based desserts, or enjoyed on its own as a meditation wine.
